Spinning Fire Ball

I got the chance to visit my best friend, Erica, in Colorado last weekend. We went to  the painted mines (pic below).

She is an amazing photographer. In the 4 days we did 5 photo shoots. Some were for me (my love of taking book cover pictures in cool locations like the pic below at Helen Hunt falls).

Some were for her. Like the steel wool photograph, or what I refer to as spinning fire balls. I am the one spinning fire in this picture! It was my first time doing it, and I was terrified. I have a humorous video on my Instagram stories of me practicing spinning the steel wool without fire. The first time I did it with fire I didn't extend the cord long enough. So the fire was way too close for comfort, but I got the hang of it quickly!

It's rare to find someone you not only like as a friend, but also can collaborate with on projects. When other authors ask me how I get to do so many cool things (like a children's book for autistic kids I co-authored and am publishing December 2018 with my friends Sam Kingdon and with Jenn Ghigna's son as the model) I tell them to collaborate.

I am also publishing this book with Erica Lindsey in December, 2018.

The trick is to be picky. I have to like the person first. That comes way before how talented he or she is. Then we talk about a few ideas and see what one project we'd both be excited about.

Second, I only work with gracious overachievers. What I mean by that is the few times I worked with stingy people, no matter what I did (usually for free) it was never enough. I go all the way in everything I do so I want a collaborator who will work as hard as I do, but who understands I am not perfect and am trying my best. And I pick people who I know will try their best as well.

And it's always nice when you can finish after a day of collaborating celebrating by staying at The Stanley Hotel, which The Shining was based on. (Drinking a Red Rum)

I've got a bunch of cool content marketing for authors (especially in fiction) I'll be sharing soon. Basically, that means bonus stuff for readers. Like original songs for books and so much more, so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, check out my Instagram account for some videos and pics. I post there a lot more frequently. :)
